Summer School’s Workshops

Field Workshops as Part of the E-FORESTER Project – Zielonka Forest District

On June 23, 2025, a field workshop was held at the Zielonka Experimental Forest District as part of the E-FORESTER project, funded by the European Union 🇪🇺.

The event was attended by students from the Arkady Fiedler Primary School in Przeźmierowo and the Gen. Stefan “Grot” Rowecki Primary School in Koziegłowy. The activities were prepared and conducted by researchers from the Poznań University of Life Sciences, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, and the Cypriot research unit Space Systems Solutions.

Under the guidance of Dr. Anna Wierzbicka, students learned how to detect, identify, and protect themselves against ticks.

With Prof. Paweł Rutkowski and Dr. Monika Konatowska, they explored the secrets of forest soils and learned to recognize both native and invasive plant species found in the forest environment.

A special highlight was prepared by the E-FORESTER project team: Dr. Adam Młynarczyk, Dr. Jakub Ceglarek, and MSc. Ignacy Kowalewski, who introduced students to a robot dog, a technology that may support future forestry operations. Nearly 60 people participated in the school-focused workshop, including 41 students and 3 teachers from Przeźmierowo, and 13 students and 2 teachers from Koziegłowy.

The second part of the workshop, aimed at adult participants, was held on July 5, 2025, and was dedicated to students from the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology at the Poznań University of Life Sciences. Participants were introduced to forest environment monitoring systems and, like the younger group, had the opportunity to explore the potential applications of the robot dog in forestry. Over 30 people took part in this session, including 33 university students.

The workshops was financed by the E-FORESTER project, No. 101182985, implemented within the Horizon Europe programme, in the HORIZON-MSCA-2023-SE-01 call.
